Rising Government Attorneys to be Awarded Legal Leader Awards at Upcoming MCLE Luncheon Series

Orange County Supervisor and the only attorney on the Board, Shawn Nelson, will be the first out of a series of rising government attorneys to be awarded Whittier Law School Alumni Association’s Legal Leader’s Award in appreciation of their contributions to the Orange County legal community.

Shawn Nelson, a graduate of Western State University College of Law, was elected to the Fullerton City Council in November 2002. He previously served as Mayor of Fullerton and as Mayor Pro Tem. Shawn is the managing partner in the Santa Ana law firm of Rizio and Nelson and is also an arbitrator for the Orange County Bar Association.

The spring Legal Leader Series, “Your Government Lawyers” will take place every fourth Tuesday or Wednesday of the month from February through June. Each month new government attorneys will present a topic of his or her choice and be awarded the Legal Leader’s Award. Members of the audience can receive one credit of MCLE for each presentation.

Honoring: Joe Dunn, Former California State Senator and Executive Director of the State Bar of California

Wednesday, May 25, 2011: South Coast Winery, 12:00 – 1:15 p.m.
Honoring: Nick Chrisos, Orange County Counsel

Wednesday, June 29, 2011: South Coast Winery, 12:00 – 1:15 p.m.
Honoring: Tony Rackauckas, Orange County District Attorney

Former recipients of the Legal Leader Award include Orange County District Attorney, Tony Rackauckas and Orange County Superior Court Judges, the Honorable James Gray, the Honorable Lon Hurwitz, the Honorable Scott Steiner, the Honorable Andre Manssourian and the Honorable Cheri Pham.

The cost of attendance is $30 for the community, $20 for Whittier Law School Alumni and Faculty and $15 for all law students. This price includes lunch and 1 credit of California Continuing Legal Education*. Firms or individuals interested in sponsoring parts or all of the series will be recognized in the main program publication and verbally at the luncheons.
