Class of 2008
Vice President of Legal Affairs at AcuFocus,
How are you currently involved with the practice area?
Soon after passing the bar, I was recruited to be the in-house counsel for a start-up ophthalmic medical device company. As Vice President of Legal Affairs, I am involved in legal matters broader than IP, but it definitely was my IP background that helped me land the job. The patent and trademark portfolio forms a core corporate asset for the company, as it does with most medical device companies, and I am focused on it about half of the time. I develop strategies to protect the company’s IP, manage the activities of outside patent and trademark counsel, draft licensing and other agreements, train company employees on IP issues, and head up the company’s intellectual property committee.
