COSTA MESA, Calif. – Nov. 20, 2012 – Whittier Law School recently completed a survey of graduates from the class of 2011 at 15 months after graduation. The data shows that 69.6% of Whittier Law School graduates are employed and of that number, 58% have acquired jobs that require bar admission or give an advantage to those with law degrees. The status of 5% is unknown.
The Law School collected the data to gain a clearer picture of our students’ employment trends. Whittier Law School students tend to be hired by smaller law firms, which generally extend long-term offers later than their large law firm counterparts, according to the National Association of Legal Career Professionals. Although not required for reporting, the 15-month statistics were collected and calculated in compliance with ABA standards for nine-month employment data.
According to Lakshmi Paranthaman, the new Assistant Dean of Career Development & Employer Outreach, “We have completely redesigned our Career Development Program and hired a new counseling staff, all of whom have law degrees and practice experience. We have also increased the scope of our recruiting programs and expect to see positive results from these changes in the next few years.”
