Jim Tanizaki is a career prosecutor with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, where he has served for over 25 years. As a Senior Assistant District Attorney, he currently oversees and manages the Violent Crimes/Vertical Prosecution Division where homicides, hard-core gangs, sexual assault and DNA cases are handled. A permanent member of the Special Circumstances Committee, Professor Tanizaki also reviews all death penalty eligible cases to determine the appropriateness of seeking capital punishment. He has tried 85 jury trials, including 26 homicides. He is also actively involved in the recruitment of new prosecutors and law clerks. Professor Tanizaki has taught Criminal Trial Advocacy at Whittier Law School since 1999.
