Professor Haythorn joined the Whittier faculty in 1976 and is responsible for the operation of the law library and information technology on the Law School Campus. He has also taught Law Library Administration at the Library School at UCLA and serves as a Board Member for the University of California, Irvine’s paralegal program. A retired United States Air Force Judge Advocate he had assignments including the Directorate of Legal Information Services at the Air Force Judge Advocate School and the Contracts Division of Space and Missiles Systems where he was the senior reservist.
Professor Haythorn has served as the Program Director at Whittier’s Summer Program at Santander, Spain and also at the Program at Toulouse, France. He participated as a member of a Ph.D. review committee for a faculty member at the University of Cantabria, Santander, Spain. While in Spain, Denny Haythorn participated in Continuing Legal Education Programs through the University’s Commercial Legal Department. He made several trips to visit universities in China and negotiated with the University of Nanjing to host the Whittier Summer Program. Professor Haythorn has been appointed Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at Whittier Law School and been elected the School’s representative on the President Search Committee and two Dean Search Committees. He worked as Acting College Librarian for a term. Denny was the President of the Southern California Association of Law Libraries, a Section of the American Association of Law Libraries. In addition, he has been chosen to be on many committees of both library associations which produced guides and tools for the profession. He is an active member of the ABA Forum on Air and Space Law. Professor Haythorn has served as a team member on ABA Site Inspections Teams, most recently reviewing to the Army Judge Advocate School. He is a member of the Washington State Bar Association.
Denny Haythorn is a long time competitive sailor in local and national regattas. He works as a senior race management official. He also is trained in the operation of power boats and been up and down both sea coasts. Professor Haythorn was elected Commodore of the prestigious California Yacht Club and continues to serve on the Board of Directors. He is a supporter of the Catalina Conservancy and other related groups.
