Professor Peeler joined the law faculty in 1995 after serving as a Visiting Professor at San Jose State University. For six years beginning in 2002, he served the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and he has been a law school administrator since that time. His interests include comparative law and comparative legal systems, and he has focused much of his attention to developing foreign study opportunities and exchange programs. He was recently appointed Assistant Dean for Internationalization, and in that capacity he oversees all foreign study programs including a summer program in China, Israel, France, Mexico and Spain. Dean Peeler initiated the programs in France, Mexico and Spain, and each summer he directs and teaches in the programs in France and Spain. He is the Director of Whittier Law School’s LL.M. Program in U.S. Legal Studies which is designed exclusively for foreign educated lawyers. He teaches the required courses for that program as serves as a mentor to the international students.

  • In progress: Eliminating the Most Power Man in France. This article examines Honore de Balzac’s ALes Splendeurs et miseres des courtisanes,@ a 19th century novel often cited as the source for the famous statement that the French juge d’instruction (investigative judge) is the most power man in France with an analysis of recent legislative reform to diminish the powers of this magistrate and an examination of a recent criminal investigation which arguably prompted the rush to eliminate completely this 200 year old French legal institution.
  • The Myths of Ordorizzi. This article examines several myths about homosexuality and homosexuals who are school teachers in the context of Odorizzi v. Bloomfield School District, a 1966 California case used widely in contracts casebooks to teach the contractual defense of undue influence.
