Appellate Advocacy

Professor Ruben is a member of the Whittier College Board of Trustees and recently retired from his partnership at the international Jones Day law firm. He was Order of the Coif and graduated 5th in his class at the UCLA School of Law, and has a BS in marketing from USC. He was listed in the Best Lawyers in America for many years, and was named a Southern California Super Lawyer in business litigation and real property law for two decades.

Rich was a trial lawyer, and spent most of his career with large international firms. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the former Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro firm, and chair of its national litigation practice. He tried and arbitrated approximately 100 cases in the state and federal courts, and argued appeals in a number of his cases. Many of his cases involved tens or hundreds of millions of dollars, in many subject areas, including: consumer and employment class actions, unfair business practice cases, libel actions, business torts, partnership disputes, contract claims, water law actions, construction defect cases, and others. His major specialty was in real estate disputes, representing developers, banks and other lenders, buyers and sellers, brokers, and owners in all types of real estate litigation.
