Professor Lapin is a Harvard-trained negotiation, mediation and communication specialist who serves as negotiation consultant and advisor to Fortune 500 corporations and governments globally. He is principal of the consulting firm, Lapin Negotiation Strategies, LLC and leads the Lapin International negotiation and conflict resolution practice

His clients include: AT&T; British Telecom; Child Health Corp of America; Estee Lauder (China); Government of Qatar; Turner Construction; USAID; The United States Air Force; US State Department; Yahoo! Inc; York International; Johnson Controls Inc; J&J (China).

Born and raised in South Africa, educated in the United Kingdom and having consulted extensively in the UK, Europe, China, SE Asia and the Middle East, Professor Lapin brings an international richness and cultural understanding to his work, an asset in today’s world of globalization.

Professor Lapin has mediated and resolved many disputes encompassing the areas of intellectual property, construction, business, employment, medical malpractice, labor union issues, family law and conflicts involving multinational components where cultural differences often play a key role. His driving philosophy is to help parties search for creative and innovative solutions that resolve the dispute to their satisfaction while preserving the ongoing working relationship to the extent possible.

Besides resolving conflict through mediation, Professor Lapin also introduced the use of mediation for negotiating transactions such as joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions.

He was commissioned by Penguin Books of London to write “Working with Difficult People” which was published in 2009. He also jointly authored “The Book of Management” (Penguin Books) together with nine other experts around the world. He has published numerous articles on negotiation, dispute resolution and corporate and diplomatic relationship building, which have been translated into several languages.

He served on the board of the Northern California Mediation Association and is an advanced practitioner member of the Association for Conflict Resolution. He is a member of the Los Angeles Superior Court Dispute Resolution Panel.
