Maysa Eissa Nichter joins Whittier Law School as Assistant Director of Academic Support and Adjunct Professor of Law. Prior to entering academia, Maysa gained experience in both the private and public service sectors. As an Associate in the Los Angeles office of McDermott Will and Emery LLP, she focused on corporate and intellectual property matters. In addition, she served extensively on the firm’s pro bono committee, representing asylum applicants alongside the U.S. Committee for Refugee and Immigrants as well as advising local public interest organizations. Maysa also served as Staff Attorney at Public Health Law & Policy (now ChangeLab Solutions), where she frequently negotiated with funders, institutional partners and consultants. Immediately prior to joining Whittier, Maysa taught Legal Writing and guided students in career development at Thomas Jefferson School of Law. She is a graduate of UCLA and UC Berkeley School of Law, where she served as editor of the Berkeley Journal of International Law, participated in the International Human Rights Clinic, and externed with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. She is a past member of the National Advisory Committee of Equal Justice Works, one of the nation’s largest funders for new attorneys focused on equity and public service, and now currently serves on the Programming Committee of the American Association of Law Schools Academic Support Section.
