Professor Martin has been teaching Legal Writing since 2000. From 2004 to 2008, her Legal Writing classes at WLS were aligned with the Center for International and Comparative Law (CICL) with course problems focused on international legal issues. Since 2009, Professor Martin’s Legal Writing course emphasis has been on environmental issues in the law. Professor Martin is pursuing a Masters degree in Sustainability and Environmental Management, and she has focused her research on environmental justice as well as the intersection of international sports events with environmental policy. She recently presented “Advancing Environmental Justice through Legal Writing” at the Pacific Northwest Regional Legal Writing Conference.
Since 2005 Professor Martin has also taught International Sports Law through WLS’s summer abroad programs in Spain, China and France. In 2007-2008, she was the Director of Whittier’s Nanjing, China program.
In her Lawyering Skills I classes, Professor Martin draws from her experience as a civil law and motion and appellate practitioner. She previously served as the Managing Editor of and contributing author for a national newsletter for trial counsel, and she has written a chapter on motions in limine for insurance litigation for a California practice guide. Her work as a consultant for local civil litigation firms provides a foundation for the skills based teaching approach she uses in her classes.
