Nicole Williams, Class of 1999

Nicole represented a couple whose children were unlawfully detained and removed from their custody by the Orange County Social Services Agency. By the time Nicole was retained, the children had already been in foster care for over a year and the Agency was seeking to ultimately terminate parental rights. Nicole not only helped the couple reunite with their children and close the case, but she also referred the couple to a civil rights attorney. The case just settled last month for $475,000. Now the family has a chance at a new life. As a result of a formal complaint letter Nicole sent to the County and Board of Supervisors, the Agency formally changed their policies with respect to handling these specific type of cases (i.e. “dirty house” cases). Nicole handled the entire case pro bono.
