Managing Partner, Law Offices of Phil Shekerlian

Phil Shekerlian ’11

What do you do at your job?
I am the managing partner at the Law Offices of Phil Shekerlian. We handle tax and estate planning, asset protection, real estate law, criminal defense, bankruptcy, business incorporation and consulting, and transactional contracts. I coordinate projects, supervise the attorneys and staff, handle all marketing and networking, and I am the main attorney handling asset protection and tax and estate planning clients.

What excites you most about your job?
I love that I am a “friendly” attorney, where I am helping people, rather than suing people and creating unneeded stress.

How did your experience at Whittier Law School prepare you for this position?
It made me realize that there is a lot of good that can be done as an attorney, and not every attorney has to be a “shark.”

Do you have any advice for those seeking employment in your industry?
Try out internships/externships while you are in law school. Many of my colleagues are not happy with the field of law they went into, and are in too deep to switch.
