Commencement 2013

Saturday, May 18th, 2013

The 2013 Commencement Exercises will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Quad on the campus of Whittier Law School. The ceremony lasts approximately two hours with a reception immediately following the ceremony. Graduates should arrive on campus no later than 8:30 a.m.

Airport Information

You have a number of choices when flying into Southern California. While there are a number of smaller airports, most people use the following airports because of the wide range of international airlines and most U.S. domestic carriers: Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Long Beach (LGB), and John Wayne Airport in Orange
County (SNA).

Los Angeles International Airport is located at the intersection of Century and Sepulveda Boulevards in Westchester. It is about 36 miles north-west of WLS campus.

Cap & Gown Fittings and Distribution

Whittier Law School absorbs all costs in connection with commencement regalia. Cap and Gown fittings will take place during the Grad Fair, which will be held on February 5th and 6th from 12pm-6pm in the Lower Concourse. If you do not attend Grad Fair, it is imperative that you contact the Whittier Law Bookstore or you may not be able to order your commencement regalia and announcements.

Caps and Gowns will be distributed on campus during the week of April 15th through the Whittier Law School Bookstore. If you have not already done so, you will be required to fill out information for the Career Development Office prior to picking up your regalia. You may access the form below and bring it to the bookstore when you pick up your regalia. Please complete it in full.

Graduate Employment Information Survey

Students should arrive at the ceremony with their caps, gowns, and hoods. A robing room will be available in the Cafeteria. After the ceremony, students must leave their caps, gowns and hoods in the boxes indicated.

Ceremony Information and Schedule

Graduates must arrive at the Law School no later than 8:30 a.m. for check-in. Arrive with your Cap, Gown, and Hood. Changing facilities will be available on campus. The student processional line-up will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. in the Cafeteria. Students will receive maps and their line-up assignments when Caps and Gowns are distributed. Graduates will march in alphabetical order by last name. Promptly at 10:00 a.m., the Marshals will lead the commencement processional line into the arena. Details regarding the processional, where you line-up, where you sit, and the logistics of the ceremony will be posted on the Whittier Law School website approximately one week before the ceremony.

Diplomas and Certificates will be mailed to your mailing address during the summer. Please be sure to verify your mailing address on my.whittier.

Directions to the Commencement

The Law School is located at the corner of Harbor Boulevard and Sunflower Street, near the 405 (San Diego), 55 (Costa Mesa) and 5 (Santa Ana) freeways, four miles form John Wayne Orange County Airport, and 36 miles from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Disabled Students and Guests

There are ample disabled parking spaces on campus. In addition, special seats will be available near the front of the guest seating area. If you or your guest(s) will need special assistance to be seated before the processional, please contact Catherine Kennedy at extension 110.

Graduation Announcements

You had the opportunity to order graduation announcements during the Grad Fair. Announcements may also be ordered directly from Herff Jones by going to their website at collegegrad.herffjones.com. Generic announcements may also be purchased through the Whittier Law School Bookstore.

Honorees and Speakers

The Keynote Speaker will be Patrick Kelly, President of The California State bar. In addition, the SBA President, David Saetang, and the Valedictorian, will address the graduating class.

Parking

Parking is available in the student parking lot. Additional parking will be available across the street from the Law School.

Photography

The Law School has made arrangements with an independent professional photographer to photograph all graduates. During the ceremony, the photographer will take photos of each graduate as he/she receives his/her diploma cover. (Actual diplomas are mailed in mid-July). Photos can be viewed and purchased on-line from University Photography shortly after the graduation ceremony. http://www.universityphoto.com/

Due to the lay-out of the facilities, it will not be possible for friends and family members to leave their seats during the ceremony. Anyone attempting to leave their seats and stand in the aisles will be restrained from doing so.
