Students may periodically experience academic or personal situations or emergencies which can elevate the normal law school stress. The Law School’s Office of Student Affairs serves as a liaison in helping students obtain support services with emotional and/or physical challenges. The Office of Student Affairs offers a variety of services aimed at assisting students adjust to unforeseen and extraordinary circumstances.
While we very strongly encourage you to stop by Student Affairs, or set up a confidential appointment with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs if you are experiencing emotional or personal challenges, we also want to apprise you of other available resources, as listed below.
A counselor from the Whittier College Student Counseling Center will be on the law school campus Tuesdays, 11am – 3pm and Thursdays, 3pm – 6pm in Conference Room 2C to provide counseling, referral and crisis services. Appointments will be taken on the hour and may be scheduled by calling 562-907-4239. Please clearly indicate that you are seeking to schedule an appointment at the Law School. Counselors may also be available for walk-in consultations (if the door to the office is open, feel free to seek out the counselors).
After hours crisis support may be accessed by calling Whittier College Campus Safety 562-907-4200, and asking for the counselor on call. Appointment, consultation and crisis call fees will be billed to the student account at the rate of $30/session. A short-term, problem focused model will be utilized. If additional services are appropriate, students will be referred to private or community providers.
