Professor I. Nelson Rose is an internationally known scholar, author and public speaker, and is recognized as one of the world’s leading experts on gaming law. He is best known for his internationally syndicated column and 1986 landmark book, “GAMBLING AND THE LAW®.” Prof. Rose is the author of more than 2,000 published works, including INTERNET GAMING LAW; GAMING LAW: CASES AND MATERIALS, the first casebook on the subject; and the just published GAMING LAW IN A NUTSHELL. Prof. Rose is co-editor-in-chief of the Gaming Law Review and Economics.
Harvard Law School educated, Prof. Rose is often called upon to advise governments and industry on issues related to legal gambling. He has served as a consultant and expert witness for licensed casinos, major law firms, international corporations, Indian tribes, and local, state and national governments: the provinces of Québec and Ontario; the District of Columbia; the states of Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico and Texas; and the federal governments of Canada and the United States. Prof. Rose was an expert witness for the federal government of Mexico in the first NAFTA case involving gaming machines.
Prof. Rose has addressed such diverse groups as the World Lottery Association, National Conference of State Legislatures and the National Academy of Sciences. He has taught classes on gaming law to the F.B.I., and at universities around the world. While on sabbatical from Whittier Law School in 1993-1994, he became the first Visiting Scholar at the University of Nevada-Reno and taught the only course of gaming law in the state of Nevada. Every summer beginning in 2007 he has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Macau, teaching Gaming Law to lawyers from China and around the world. This September he will be teaching a Masters of Law class in Gaming Law at the University of Melbourne in Australia. Prof. Rose has presented scholarly papers on gambling in Antigua, Argentina, Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic, England, Italy, Japan, Macau, Portugal, Singapore and Spain.
