Certificate
Program in International and Comparative Law
The certificate
program in international and comparative law offers students the opportunity to acquire
a rigorous foundation in international law and the laws of
other nations. This specialized course of study prepares
students for careers in international and transnational law.
In order to receive the certificate upon
graduation, students must successfully complete 15 or more
units in approved courses in international and comparative
law, and attend 14 sessions of the colloquia series. All
Certificate students take the core courses – International
Law and Comparative Legal Systems – and 10 additional
units of elective credits, which may include externships,
independent studies, and research assistance. Click here for
more details.
International Law Society
The International Law Society provides
a forum for students interested in the field of international
law. Through discussions, speakers, research, and publications,
the society promotes opportunities within international law.
Visiting Scholars
Each year, the Center hosts visiting scholars
from top law schools and cutting-edge legal practice.
They participate in the Center’s
annual colloquia series and meet with students and faculty.
These visits enrich the international and comparative law
program, and provide exciting opportunities for reflection
and dialogue.
International Law Symposium and
Colloquia Series
The Law School sponsors a major symposium
on international law each year. In 2005, the Law School hosted
International
Law Weekend – West as the twenty-second
annual international law symposium. International Law Weekend
- West is a biennial conference convened by the American
Branch of the International Law Association. International
Law Weekend - West brings together legal practitioners and
academics to discuss cutting-edge issues in public and private
international law. Panels addressed a wide-range of topics,
emphasizing the impact of globalization on the practice of
law. The topics included international business transactions,
international criminal law, international environmental law,
international trade law, human rights law, and the law of
