Civil Procedure
5 Units
This course explores the fundamental concepts of federalism (allocation of power between state and federal courts); subject matter and litigant jurisdiction; the jury trial system; pleading, discovery, and motion practice; final judgment rule and exceptions, including interlocutory appeal and mandamus; and res judicata and collateral estoppel.

Community Property
An examination of the classification of property, its management and control, and its distribution upon dissolution of the community according to California law.

Professional Responsibility
4 Units
This course combines the substantive law of Professional Responsibility with a writing skill segment and a section on interviewing, counseling, and negotiating skills. Problems include the canons of legal ethics; duty to court, clients, the public, and profession; advocacy and the adversary system; conflicts of interest; fees and solicitation; and lawyer discipline.

Constitutional Law
6 Units
An examination of the sources and nature of constitutional law and of the judicial functions in constitutional cases; the scope of federal power, the separation of powers, and the federal system; protection of the rights of individuals, due process, equal protection issues; the Bill of Rights; contract impairment; eminent domain; and the privileges and immunities of citizens.

Contracts
6 Units
This course focuses on the formation, elements, and enforceability of private agreements; the Statute of Frauds; third-party beneficiary contracts; assignment of rights and delegation of duties; liability for breach of contract; the law of conditions and discharge; and defenses to contract action.

Corporations
An introduction to the laws of business associations. This course examines the legal issues surrounding formation, financing and control of corporations and non-corporate business associations.

Criminal Law
3 Units
A study of state and federal criminal offenses which include crimes against the person, property, status, and inchoate offenses. Both common law and statutory defenses are examined.

Criminal Procedure
A study of the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Fourteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution, including warrant requirements for search and seizures, privilege against self-incrimination, due process, right to counsel, and the exclusionary rule.

Evidence
A survey of the rules and standards that regulate the admission of evidence, including relevancy, privileged communications, the hearsay rule and its exceptions, the opinion rule, authentication and "best evidence" rule, impeachment and rehabilitation, demonstrative and scientific evidence, presumptions, and burdens of proof.

Legal Analysis Workshop
An examination of hypothetical legal problems that arise in first-year Torts and Contracts to improve writing and analytical reasoning skills.

Legal Writing
4 Units
Legal writing introduces students to legal resources and research, legal memoranda preparation and presentation, and the form and content of appellate briefs. It also teaches students the fundamentals of legal research. The course focuses on how statutes and cases are recorded, organized, and disseminated. Students will learn the process and methodology of print and computerized legal research.

Real Property
6 Units
This course explores the legal analysis of real property interests; freehold estates and future interests; the landlord and tenant relationship; concurrent land ownership; adverse possession; methods of transferring title to land; recording statutes; easements and profits; covenants running with the land; equitable servitudes; and lateral and subjacent support.

Remedies
An explanation of the availability and limitations of equitable and legal remedies, focusing on injunctions, declaratory judgments, specific performance, reformation, rescission, restitution, enforcement of decrees, and the problems in the merger of law and equity.

Torts
6 Units
This course surveys civil liability and breach of duties imposed by law, including intentional wrongs to persons and property; negligence and vicarious, strict, and products liability; defamation, and other civil wrongs.

Wills and Trusts
A study of the methods of disposing of a donor's wealth during lifetime and at death, with emphasis on the use of wills and trusts.
